My Devotions Lately Have Had a Recurring Theme

My devotions lately have had a recurring theme or so it seems. They all center around the disciples and the hard times and persecutions that they endured. Life was not all sunshine and rainbows as the saying goes. We all, especially me, want to whine and complain when things are hard, when life does not treat us well. Being a Jesus follower was never a promise of an easy life, good times, nor fame and fortune. Just the opposite. Our struggles and trials, heartbreaks and misfortunes come with a master plan. One that strengthens us, prepares us, softens our hearts, offers us a chance for thankfulness, gratitude, compassion, mercy, redemption.

I learned to love from the unloved. I learned compassion from those who found none, I learned gratitude from those who had nothing. I learned compassion from not receiving it. I learned mercy by receiving injustice. I received redemption when I never could have been worthy of it.

This morning I thank God for every single thing I was given but especially the hard times, the hurt, the misfortunes and trials. In every situation I have come to find JOY, thankfulness for I am because of it all.

Give thanks for God is good.

Love. Pam
