Did You Know That Lots of Beautiful Things Happen in a Garden?

Did you know that lots of beautiful things happen in a garden? Flowers grow and bees hum and the birds sing. The wind often blows gently through and spreads the beautiful scents of fresh soil and lingering raindrops. You can watch a tiny seed begin to grow or harvest real food that will furnish you the things you need to stay alive and healthy. Good things just seem to always be around when you are standing in a garden.

I think of Jesus and all the times we find him in a garden. I think he must have loved them as much as I do. He was always going to the garden to pray, early morning, dark of night. It seemed to be his favorite place to walk and talk with his father. God himself created a garden just for his creations, filled it with all the things they could ever want or need. He did it just so he could walk and talk with Adam and Eve in the early morning and late evening.

The garden is where Jesus was buried and rose to live again, it’s where Mary went early that morning to care for his body, It’s where he first appeared after his resurrection and revealed himself to Mary. She even thought he WAS the gardener and truth be told that is his roll. Bringing new life from the old.

The air is crisp this morning, there is a hush covering the earth, a softening of the air. For me fall and winter are the best times of the year. For lots of people it is the dying time, the hard months but for me it is the beginning time, the promise. A time to plan and prepare and hope and believe that life is still beautiful. It may look bleak, but I know that there are things happening out of my view, things that will bloom again, nourish me again.

I’ll be in the garden again this morning, Dirt under my nails and some coffee and Tylenol lubricating my old bones. Who knows who I might meet this morning. I might even hum my old favorite song by Charles Austin Miles written in 1913 ” I come to the Garden Alone.” You know it,
He walks with me and talks with me and tells me I am his own.”

Blessed Sunday to each of you, go find your garden.

Love, Pam
