Mark 12:41-44

Jesus Is Watching

Mark 12:41-44And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. …

Jesus is watching. Lots of people are coming by putting their Money into the treasury, some LARGE amounts. I can just see the offering people’s eyes sparkle, excited to get their hands on it all and start counting… I understand that… it takes funds to do things. Jesus keeps watching, calls his disciples over to watch too. Here she comes, I can see her slow hesitant steps as she makes her way through the line. Head bowed low, feeling less than. Jesus sees her. As she drops her tiny coins into the offering plate and begins to walk away, she catches his eye and he nods a gentle nod (give me some grace here) . He leans into his disciples and tells them, ” This poor widow put in more than all the contributors to the treasury.” How can that be? She gave her all, everything she had. She walked away knowing there was nothing to sustain her, no grocery store run to make, no funds for the light bill. Her ALL.

Most mornings I have these moments too. I watch. I see you as you stop by and drop off your offerings, the box of salt, the mac and cheese , the tube of toothpaste. I watch (we have cameras) as you look for a good spot and gently set your box or bag down, hoping it will be found. I find each of them and I thank God for you. I pray a prayer of thanksgiving for you and your love. You are our blessing.

We are here because of you. We cannot do what we do without you. You are our strength and our persistence. Together, we make a magnificent team. I know that Jesus is watching. He sees. I know that it (you) bring a smile to his face. You are changing lives, making a difference that is bigger than you can ever imagine.

Today I praise God for the 2 copper coins, the mite that you left at our door.

Love, Pam
