Matthew chapter 4

Let's Play Do You Remember?

Let’s play “Do you remember?” this morning. Indulge me a moment. I’m old and I like to reminisce. This probably won’t be a pleasant journey for most of us.
Do you remember what you were doing when you asked Jesus to be Lord of your life? Do you remember what was going through your mind and heart that put you at the feet of Jesus begging for forgiveness? What were you feeling? I don’t want to go back there either.
This morning I got up to Matthew chapter 4And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. …. This is where Jesus goes for a walk down by the sea. I don’t know how this walk started nor if it was a search or a rescue. I do know that it changed lives like no other lives had ever been changed before. Kind of like the night he found me, I didn’t find him. He just showed up and like Peter and Andrew I followed.
That’s the part that still gives me pause… He came by and said “follow me,” and I didn’t ask a single question, not one. I followed. Never in my now long life have I ever just followed, no questions, no agenda, no path or plan. That takes my breath away after all these years, over and over I revisit that moment when life took a U turn. When I take a look all I see is darkness, heavy and suffocating darkness, Then I see a small spark and that darkness begins to roll backwards like a ferocious storm in reverse. It shrinks and retreats in an angry roil and I am standing in sonshine, In that moment I try with all my might to absorb, take in, examine what just happened and I can’t. It is unexplainable. It’s also the most beautiful and Holy moment I have yet to experience. Don’t miss that “YET”. I am ready and waiting for this next one to come, when once again he will stop by and say “Follow me.” and once again I will be right behind him, foot step for footstep.

That is my prayer for you, too.

Love, Pam
