Frequently Asked Questions
I hear these a lot. If you have a question that is not here — call. We would rather talk to you than wonder what you are wondering.
What is Widows Oil Ministry?
We are a faith-based nonprofit serving Laurens County, Georgia since 2018. We love our neighbors like Jesus — wherever, whenever, however that love needs to show up. We run eight programs — food, housing, veterans, kids, a farm, a safe place for women in crisis, neighbor care, and a chapel.
Everything we do comes from a small jar of oil. The widow in 2 Kings 4 had almost nothing. She poured. God made it enough. That is still how this works. We gather the littles — food, furniture, a coat, a few hours of someone's time — and we pour. God makes it enough. He always has.
Where are you located?
1011 Stonewall Street, Dublin, GA 31021. Right here in Laurens County, Middle Georgia. We serve Dublin, East Dublin, and the surrounding communities. If you are local and need help, we are not far.
How do I get help from your ministry?
Call us or email us. That is the first step. We do not make you fill out a stack of paperwork before you can talk to a real person. We listen first. Then we figure out together what you need — food, housing, furniture, clothing, someone to talk to, or just a safe place to land for a minute.
Everything you share with us stays with us. We do not act without your knowledge. We do not contact anyone on your behalf without your direction. We listen first, and we follow your lead from the first conversation to the last.
Is Widows Oil Ministry a 501(c)(3)?
Yes. Widows Oil Ministry Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. When someone trusts us with their money, we feel that. We do not take it lightly. Not ever.
How can I donate?
You can give through PayPal — secure, credit card or debit card or PayPal balance, it all works. Or mail a check payable to "Widows Oil Ministry Inc." to our Stonewall Street address. Every dollar goes directly to neighbors in Laurens County. No overhead. Just a community pouring out what they have.
What donations do you accept?
Non-perishable food, clothing in all sizes, coats and cold-weather wear, bedding and blankets, furniture (sofas, beds, tables, dressers), large appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves), small appliances (microwaves, crock pots, coffee makers), and housewares (pots, pans, dishes, utensils, cleaning supplies, hygiene items).
If you have something you are not sure about, call us. If we cannot use it, we will help find someone who can. We do not like seeing good things go to waste.
Can I volunteer? What kind of help do you need?
Yes. This ministry runs on people, not programs or budgets. Whatever you can give — a Saturday morning, a truck, a willing pair of hands — there is a place for it here.
We need help with food distribution, furniture delivery, farm harvest days, youth mentoring, event support, and more. Most of it just needs a willing person and a few hours. That might be you. Fill out the volunteer form on our website or call. Come hang with us.
What programs do you offer?
Eight programs, one mission:
- Food Pantry & Farm — Over 800 families fed in 2025. Fresh vegetables grown right here.
- Transitional Housing — 208 families moved into stable, fully furnished homes in 2025.
- Safe Harbor — A safe place for women in crisis. If you are not safe at home, you are welcome here.
- Veterans Support — Serving those who served us.
- Children & Youth — Kids need to know they are seen, loved, and worth investing in.
- Neighbor Care — Seniors and homebound neighbors who just need someone to show up.
- Chapel — Where we gather to worship and remember why any of this matters.
- Volunteering — The front door for anyone who wants to help.
Every single one exists because someone showed up with what they had and trusted God to make it enough.
Who started Widows Oil Ministry?
Pamela Otts. She started it in 2018 because she could not read "love your neighbor" one more time and keep pretending it was a suggestion. She is a former paramedic, a woman of deep faith, and someone who has seen enough of life to know the difference between caring about people and actually showing up for them. She will tell you she is just doing what anyone ought to do. The hundreds of families served say otherwise. So does her email address: nextrightthing.
Why "Widows Oil"?
It comes from 2 Kings 4 in the Bible. A widow came to Elisha with almost nothing — a small jar of oil and a debt that was about to take her children. He told her to gather every vessel she could find and pour. She poured. The oil did not stop until the last vessel was full. Her debt was paid. Her family was safe.
The limit was never in what God could give. Only in how many vessels she gathered. That is our story. We are always looking for more vessels. There is always more to pour.
Do I have to be a Christian to get help?
No. Full stop. We are a faith-based ministry, and our faith is what gets us out of bed in the morning. But we do not require anyone to believe what we believe to receive help. Every person is made in the image of God. We do not ask people to earn it, explain it, or prove it. We just treat them like it is true — because it is.
Does Widows Oil Ministry serve outside Laurens County?
Our home is Laurens County, Georgia — Dublin, East Dublin, and the surrounding communities. That is where we are rooted and where most of our work stays. But sometimes love does not stop at a county line. We have partnered with a sewing project in Uganda to provide machines for women to start clothing businesses. From Middle Georgia to the other side of the world — if God opens a door, we walk through it.
How is the ministry funded?
Entirely by donations. Individuals, churches, community partners. We do not receive government funding. Every dollar someone gives goes directly to the people we serve. Not to overhead, not to salaries, not to programs that sound good on paper but do not change anything. To neighbors in Laurens County who need it. Period.
Can I drop off donations in person?
Yes, at our Stonewall Street location in Dublin. For large items like furniture and appliances, call ahead so we can have help ready. If you cannot bring it to us, we may be able to arrange a pickup for large items — just reach out and ask.
Tell me about the farm.
We have a farm where we grow fresh vegetables — tomatoes, okra, squash, greens, and more. It is not a big operation. It is a garden that got out of hand because God sent the harvest. The food goes into our food boxes and to families who need real food, not just packaged goods. Volunteers help with planting, weeding, and harvest days. There is nothing quite like watching someone walk away with a bag of vegetables that someone grew with their hands, just for them.
